COURSE SYLLABUS
Potions is a one-term class. There will be five lessons - the first four with corresponding homework and extra credit opportunities. For the fifth lesson, there will be a regular homework assignment and the extra credit will be a mandatory final exam. All assignments will be worth 30 points, so you can gain up to 300 points from this class! All HOL rules apply to this class.
Please let me know at the beginning of the term (or whenever you submit your first assignment) if you have any troubles with your English language skills. While I would prefer if students wrote answers in their own words, I understand if this is difficult due to English not being the first language of many members of HOL. I just need you to let me know so that I don't have to debate warning you about plagiarism. If you have any other difficulties with the material or with accessing the material, please send me a HOL message (my ID is ki1010). I will be happy to assist you in any way I can.
Lesson Outline:
We will be covering the basics of potion making before moving on to learn about the potions in the curriculum for years 1-3 at Hogwarts.
Lesson One: Tools of the Trade
Lesson Two: Common Ingredients & Where to Find Them
Lesson Three: Potions I (E.g. Forgetfulness Potion, Antidote to Common Poisons)
Lesson Four: Potions II (E.g. Hair-raising potion, Swelling Solution)
Lesson Five: Potions III (E.g. Confusing Concoction, Shrinking Solution)
How to Pass and Earn a Quill:
In order to pass this class and earn yourself a shiny quill, you need to earn 150 points overall and complete the Final Exam. These points can come from any assignments/extra credits, BUT you must complete the homework before you can complete the extra credit. You can earn a total of 300 points in this class (30 from every HW and EC and 30 for the Final Exam). Note: lesson five doesn't have an EC.
Deadlines and Extensions:
All assignments will be due near the end of the term. However, each month I will have recommended due dates - these will be to help keep you on track, but more importantly to let you know when you need to have your work turned in by if you would like me to submit your points during that month. I advise you to look at the recommended due dates at the beginning of term.
Since this class has an end-of-term due date, there will be no extensions.
